Curtain Up review of "Play Yourself"

A 2002 Curtain Up review by Les Gutman of the play "Play Yourself" at the New York Theatre Workshop. Ann played the role of Selma.

But the biggest surprise in the cast is Ann Guilbert. Comically brilliant and dramatically perfect, she is equal parts small-town senior citizen, lost soul and menace to society. Having fallen off my radar screen after portraying Millie Helpern, the next-door neighbor on The Dick Van Dyke Show, Ms. Guilbert's return is a near-cosmic event.

NPR's review of "Please Give"

"Please Give" was reviewed by NPR on April 30, 2010.

The bluntest, meanest character, Rebecca and Mary's grandmother, is too vivid to dislike. Ann Guilbert played Millie on the old Dick Van Dyke Show and she still has great, brash timing. She also gives you glimpses of the huge spirit trapped in that small, failing body, and frightened of death.

Los Angeles Times reviews "Please Give"

Ann's movie 'Please Give' was reviewed in the Los Angeles Times on April, 20, 2010.

Andra, the ancient in question, turns out to be a merciless crone with a bad word for everyone. Beautifully played by Ann Guilbert, Andra is the type who says "you gained weight" instead of "hello" and "what am I going to do with this?" instead of "thank you."

Time Magazine's review of "Please Give"

Time Magazine reviewed "Please Give" on April 28, 2010.

They also own the apartment next door, which they bought from its current occupant, crotchety 90-year-old Andra (the very funny Ann Morgan Guilbert). Kate and Alex are, as politely as possible, waiting for Andra to die so they can knock down the walls and have their dream apartment.

USA Today reviews "Please Give"

USA Today reviewed "Please Give" on May 2, 2010.

Rebecca is a mammography technician who is devoted to her crotchety grandmother (Ann Guilbert). Guilbert (who was Millie on The Dick Van Dyke Show) plays 91-year-old Grandma Andra with pitch-perfect comic timing.
